Try this game when your dog has learned well to follow a trail. Drop a toy outside without your dog seeing it and you continue to walk a few meters. Stop and say “find” to encourage him to find the route (most dogs are able to follow your scent, even if they do not know exactly which direction you have gone) until he finds the toy. You can initially use a long line so that you can keep the dog on the right track. After a while you make the distance longer and make the object more difficult to find. Do not throw the object too far away from where you walked, otherwise your dog will not be able to find it without your scent.
